Vintage 18k WG AP Dark Dial
Some consider Audemars Piguet to be the coolest member of the Holy Trinity of Swiss watchmaking, and I’m more than happy to accept that sentiment. My only issue with the company is their semi-total reliance on the Royal Oak, which, in recent years, has become the quintessential hype watch and the sole identity of this great manufacturer. But not for me. That I was able to acquire a timepiece from a brand that is, arguably, second only to Patek Philippe – and isn’t instantly recognizable – is exactly what I find so amazing. The fact is that I not only admire and adore this timepiece, but I believe in its inherent value and the current value proposition it offers to such an extent that I purchased two different samples of it.
This example has a dark, borderline black dial. I almost always prefer the charisma of a dark dial, and this one is no exception. I have paired it with one of the highest-quality straps I have ever experienced: brown crocodile from A. Lange & Söhne, supplemented by a Delugs Spring Deployant Clasp.
Sold Out: This one sold fast. I don’t know, maybe I didn’t price it high enough. It was definitely one of my favorites, though.
