Lily’s Longines

When my wife Merav’s maternal grandmother, Lili Itzo (1932-2016), passed away, her watches came to me, and among them was this one. Although its strap was worn, its crystal scratched, and generally it didn’t look as it does now, out of all her watches, it reminded me of her the most.
My wife Merav isn’t a particularly sentimental person. She’s almost always surprised to receive flowers from me on our anniversary or her birthday, and there’s something convenient about not having to remember Tu B’Av, Valentine’s Day, and so on. But now and then, I do something nice anyway. Leading up to our tenth wedding anniversary, I gave this watch some warmth and love, including a new cleaning, battery, crystal, and strap, and gave it to my wife as a gift.
She, of course, didn’t recognize that it was her grandmother’s, but she deeply appreciated the gesture when I revealed it to her.
