Freddie’s Friend

Regrettably, I actually know very little about this watch, other than that it belonged to my paternal grandfather, Alfred Heim, a Holocaust survivor who lost his entire family to the Nazis. Grandpa Freddie was a man of few words and somehow that makes this watch all the more dear to me.
I received this watch from my father, in non-working condition, and I took it for service at the beloved but now-defunct workshop of Zvi Lax around 2014. As part of the repair, the crown was replaced, but the original crown with its damaged stem remains in my possession.
Incidentally, Lax suggested that the watch was originally housed in a gold case that was replaced over the years (essentially making it a “franken-watch”), but I’m not at all convinced that was the case. In any event, what’s certain is that my grandfather, too, had a Doxa.
