Fifth Anniversary
I’ve already elaborated on the story of this watch here. Essentially, it’s a sporty version of Nomos’s classic model, one which I acquired for my fifth wedding anniversary, and in my eyes, it’s a superlative watch, despite its modest price. It very accurately fits my specific set of criteria: being mechanical, thin, water-resistant, and luminescent. I’ve already written here about the combination of water resistance in a thin watch, and as I said here, if I could change one thing about Bulgari’s Octo, I’d lume it up.
So, I first encountered this watch in the fall of 2015, but by the time I was ready to purchase it, a couple of years later, the model had already been discontinued. I searched everywhere for it, but to no avail. Ultimately, I reached out to Nomos directly. I explained the situation and, incidentally, mentioned that I am Jewish, third-generation to Holocaust survivors, and that they were more than welcome to tap into their German guilt and do me a solid. I got the watch.
