Linde Werdelin The One 2.6
I find Linde Werdelin (LW) to be one of the coolest independent watch brands out there, offering a unique riff on the integrated sports watch genre that dates back to 1972. The signature LW design, which was originally created as a base for diving or mountaineering computers, showed it had more than enough staying power even long after smart watches made any digital attachments irrelevant. This core design language is somewhat evocative of Gerald Genta’s Octagonal designs for Audemars Piguet, or, most specifically, the Royal Oak Concept, which, incidentally, debuted in 2002, the year LW was founded. As it is, LW never gave the impression of being an overpriced copycat of the AP Royal Oak, as some other, unnamed brands have been prone to.
This specific LW timepiece is a model dubbed “The One 2.6” – a limited edition of 88 pieces. It is essentially a dive watch with 300M of water resistance, a unidirectional rotating diving bezel, and ample lume (except on the running seconds hand, which is a misstep, in my opinion). What is remarkable is just how slim it is at just under 12mm thick (thinner than a Rolex Submariner, for instance), and its great ergonomics relative to its measurements. As someone who generally prefers smaller and more conservative timepieces, I thoroughly enjoy the level of comfort this watch offers. I have it on two OEM straps (brown alligator and black Rubber) with OEM deployant and pin buckles.
