My Service Watch

Every Israeli has one, or at least should. This is mine.
As my enlistment to the IDF approached, my aunt Daphna and uncle Gideon gifted me a standard G-Shock watch. Very fitting. At the time, I was under the impression that I had a sensitivity to rubber and leather straps. If ever this was the case, it is no longer so. Either way, the belief prompted me to go and upgrade the watch to a metallic, analog-digital, titanium G-Shock. This was a watch that greatly annoyed my commanders throughout basic and advanced training, and I had to meticulously customize an operational cover for it.
Turns out this watch is a limited edition, a collaboration with Nissan. Apparently, it even has some collector’s value. But most importantly, it’s the watch that accompanied me throughout my complete military service, one of the most challenging chapters of my life. Finishing the service successfully was not a given for me. I’m grateful for having this watch as a memento from that period.
